Head Start & Early Head Start
Teacher
Paola Head Start serves 20 children, ages 3-5 in the city of Paola, Kansas. The program operates Monday-Friday for six hours per day. Children receive comprehensive preschool services including significant focus on:
· Cognitive, language, social/emotional and motor development · Health and dental screening · Nutrition screenings and services · Developmental screenings and individual educational services · Transition services
Families of enrolled children receive all of the above services supported through resource location and development, parent education opportunities, family goal setting and the opportunity to be involved in governance and decision making for the program.
Early Head Start (EHS) serves expectant mothers through three year olds in Franklin County. Currently EHS offers 20 enrollment slots in a variety of program options. The Home Based option is available for families who are not in need of child care and consists of a 90 minute, weekly home visit as well as comprehensive health, nutrition, education and social services. The Center Based option provides child care in both center and family child care options, and is designed for families who are working or in school. Families in the Center Based option receive a monthly home visit, for approximately one hour, to support social service, health, dental and nutritional needs of the child and family.
ECKAN Head Start promotes health development for all children. In order for the program and the child’s family to be certain a child is healthy, a variety of screenings must be completed. All children in the Head Start program should receive the screenings and exams on the application checklist. Parents should review the checklist, before attending doctor’s appointments, to ensure they can advocate for their child, and ensure the appropriate screenings are completed. Please click here for the application checklist for a list of the necessary screenings and exams. If you have any questions, contact the Family Service worker at your local Head Start center, or contact the Health Coordinator at (785) 242-5481 ext. 305.
Please contact the center for more information.
