There are still many dresses available for girls in need of a formal gown for the prom. Formal gowns can be viewed at ECKAN, 1320 S. Ash, by calling the Volunteer Center at 242-7450 ext. 205. Organizer Lisa Rivers is hopeful that the event will continue to grow in years to come as more groups continue to show interest helping to sponsor the event and as more young ladies from throughout Franklin County become aware of the program. Persons interested in donating dresses for Prom Boutique 2009 may also do so at ECKAN. If you have questions, call Lisa Rivers at 785-242-7450 ext. 205. |

Prom Boutique 2008, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of ECKAN on Saturday March 15th from 6 to 8pm, provided a night of music, desserts, hair consultation, make-up samples, door prizes, and beautiful formal dresses – all for free to 20 teen girls representing Ottawa and Central Heights High School. Girls chose from over 85 formal dresses kindly donated from throughout the community, including one valued at $500. Door prizes were donated by Applebee’s, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Katie Reynolds (Avon), Hair Designers, Butler’s Florist, Shirlene Taylor & Laurinda Sobba (Mary Kay Consultants), and Deena Rogers. The event was held at the beautiful Serenity Tea Room at first and Main in Ottawa, which provided an elegant setting, thanks to the work of Gayla Parisot and her staff. Royal Cleaners of Ottawa provided free steaming for donated dresses and a significant discount on those needing to be cleaned. Volunteers for the evening included Sandy Crawford of Main Attraction, Laurinda Sobba, Tressa Roecker, Diane & Melissa Carswell, Ginger Hobbs, and Lou Baker. Thanks to these outstanding volunteers and donors, 20 young ladies are able to experience an affordable night as a princess at their prom! |
