What is Youth Action Council?
Youth Action Council (YAC) is a youth-directed program for students to perform a service after school hours that is meaningful to the community. YAC was started in 1999 as a way to provide youth leadership, organizational and life skills training, and opportunities to give back through community service. Students attend meetings twice a month to discuss, plan and reflect on service projects and what they are doing for the community. Students include youth from 6th through 12th grade.
What does YAC do?
YAC participates in a number of service projects throughout the year. They have worked with Hope House, Habitat for Humanity and Ottawa Retirement Village, just to name a few. YAC is also involved in all of the national days of service, including Join Hands Day, National Volunteer Week and Make a Difference Day. YAC also has fundraisers to raise money for their various service projects. |
