Youth in Government elects Officers for 2009-2010 Year
[Ottawa, KS] – Ottawa’s Youth in Government program continues to provide youth with leadership development opportunities. The group elected officers to serve as their leaders for the upcoming year. Officers were elected as followed:
Mayor – Zach George, OHS Junior Mayor Pro-Tem – Molly Rugg, OHS Senior Clerk – Abby Guenther, OHS Senior Project Manager – Darrah Jorgensen, OHS Junior
In addition, students were recently appointed to specific boards and commissions in Ottawa to serve as the voice of their peers in issues including schools, library programming, recreation, Main Street development, and more. Student appointments are as follows:
Ottawa City Commission – Darrah Jorgensen, OHS Junior USD 290 School Board – Zach George, OHS Junior Ottawa Recreation Commission – Molly Rugg, OHS Senior Ottawa Library Board – Dalton Blankinship, OHS Sophomore Chamber of Commerce Legislative Action Committee – Abby Guenther, OHS Senior Ottawa Main Street Association – Jordan Gray, OHS Sophomore and Kaitlin Schulz, OMS 8th Grader
Ottawa’s Youth in Government program is co-sponsored by ECKAN and the City of Ottawa and is a nationally-recognized program that engages students in grades 8 through 12 in hands-on civic engagement and leadership development.
