Director of Human Resources
Thor Brown, joined the ECKAN team in June of 2018. He previously worked for Golden Eagle Casino for 18+ years and the majority of his time was in middle and upper management. Born in Topeka, Kansas and lived most of his life in Brown County, KS. He did however spend four years of his life living in Paola, KS where he attended elementary school. After high school he went on an adventure trying to find what he wanted to do in life and the degree that he needed to get. He graduated from Highland Community College with an Associates. After that he went to Europe and took a few classes on “Multi-Culturalism” through the University of Liverpool in Liverpool, UK and classes at Erasmus University Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
After returning to the states he decided to try Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph, Missouri. After a year and a half, he decided to transfer to Washburn University in Topeka, Ks where he would eventually get his undergrad in Criminal Justice. After many years he found his niche in Human Resources and wanted to further my education to pursue opportunities. He attended Friends University, Wichita, Ks and graduated with his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
Over the years working in management Thor attended many different types of training and has done some training himself. During his adventure obtaining his education he learned about Community Action Partnerships because his children attended Head Start. As a parent he became part of the Policy Council spending three years there, two as the Chairman. Thor has attended many different types of training offered to parents and community members which enlightened him even more about the difference Community Action Partnerships make. Then he became part of the Board of Directors for NEK-CAP where he was able to learn about this facet of the agency. After that he obtained his MBA and found an opportunity to work for ECKAN as the Human Resources Director and continue to be an advocate for those less fortunate and help those toward their goal to self-sufficiency.
A little more about Thor on a personal level is that he enjoys sports and is a huge Kansas City fan. He grew up playing sports and now has gained a level of enjoyment from the game of golf that he didn’t know you could have. He enjoys playing in tournaments and just getting outside with great weather. Another new activity he has taken on is running in Mud Obstacle Course races. They are very fun and there is a sense of accomplishment just to finish. Other than that he enjoys traveling. Thor sees more adventures in his future. And finally, he is really excited about being part of the ECKAN team and foresees great things for the future of this organization.
