Prom Boutique – March 10, 2012

Making prom affordable for all families is the annual goal of the Prom Boutique. The 5th Annual Prom Boutique, sponsored by the Ottawa Volunteer Center of ECKAN, was once again a fun-filled day of free dresses, prizes, make-up and delicious refreshments.

Seventy-one girls from 12 high schools and 5 counties selected from over 400 beautiful formal dresses that had been donated from throughout our local communities..

In total, 160 prom-goers and guests attended the event in 2012.  We were able to give away 26 door prizes throughout the day thanks to many generous donors.

First United Methodist Church of Ottawa graciously donated the use of their facility for the event this year and, once again, Royal Cleaners of Ottawa provided free steaming for the donated dresses and a significant discount on those needing to be cleaned.  Carla Bienhoff and Maridee Devore provided free alteration services again this year.  Julie Bowling of Butler's Florist made the room look and feel like prom with beautiful decorations throughout.  Shannon Altic and Lou Baker were busy as usual making girls feel beautiful with hair styling and free eyebrow waxing while Laurinda Sobba was gracious enough to once again provide free facials and make-up consultations to all attendees.

We were blessed this year to have all the food donated by local restaurants, caterers and volunteers including Sandbar Sub Shop, Nana's Fudge-n-Stuff, Team Amy Cakes and Catering, Daylight Donuts, Dairy Queen, and First United Methodist Church.

We had an amazing 36 volunteers who contributed 143 hours of service to the girls from set-up on Friday to tear down on Saturday.
